It's just about time to set the clocks back, which means less daylight for training. Don't let the time change spook you! A few extra steps
you can take to play it safe out there:
- Wear BRIGHT clothes. Just about every brand of athletic wear makes some great flourescent running apparel with reflective components.
- Run with a group. A big group of reflective runners is hard to miss - and there is always safety in numbers.
- Leave those headphones at home. Being aware of surroundings is always important, but even more so in the dark!
- Carry a light. There are a variety of products that can be used for added safety. A lightweight hand-held flashlight will do, but there are also custom running lights made to fit in the hand while running (Knuckle Lights, for example). Headlamps work quite well and have the added bonus of freeing up your hands.
There are many great clothing and lighting options, so stop by your local running store to check them all out! And of course - continue all your
usual 'smart -running' practices. Stay safe out there and we'll see you in just four short months!
